Gabor, I am so happy to hear this. You are working so hard and your speech is improving every day. Keep doing everything that you are doing and you will be cured within a matter of months. Looking forward to seeing you at the SAM meeting on Saturday!
October 21, 2020 at 12:58 pm #27996GáborParticipantThank you! Sadly I have to miss this week’s SAM meeting because of a family gathering but I’m looking forward to our coaching session and the next week’s SAM meeting.
October 25, 2020 at 4:01 pm #28017AnonymousInactiveI recently added to my list “Pressure improves my speech”. I believe this is helping me as I do not back down from pressure situations but rather move towards it.
October 26, 2020 at 8:58 am #28019JavierModeratorHi Janeel! I’m glad to hear that it is helping you. I used similar ones:
“I love to speak in ALL situations”
“The sound of my voice relaxes me”
Depending on which situations you identify as “pressured”, you could use an affirmations such as “I enjoy speaking in XXXX situation”.Those are some ideas that might help you too.

My old habits keep telling me that I need to say the words in my head before saying it aloud. Lee says this is one of the worst things we can do and it’s almost asking to stutter. I need to trust myself that my brain will come up with the right words on the spot!
“I will try trust myself. I will avoid thinking words when I speak!”
October 26, 2020 at 7:46 pm #28037GáborParticipantI’d use present tense and a more positive statement:
e.g. “I always trust myself and I’m only thinking about my message when I speak”
October 26, 2020 at 8:43 pm #28038cindyParticipantThat is a great rephrase Gabor. Thank you!
October 27, 2020 at 8:28 am #28040JavierModeratorAs you said, Gábor, it is always best to use the present tense and avoid negatives.
But as we want to avoid planning words, be careful with the word “message”, as it can imply words. I would change that word with “emotions”, “being passionate”, “speaking more slowly”, “speaking like a King”….October 27, 2020 at 8:58 am #28041GáborParticipantMaybe we can use the word “ideas” instead of “message”.
October 27, 2020 at 9:00 am #28042JavierModeratorExactly! But as long as we don’t perceive it as words. When we say “ideas”, we refer to the main idea, not words. For example, when I coach people, I only have one idea in my mind: “help you”. That’s it! And I begin speaking, focusing on that idea, and Crutches, and being passionate, loving, friendly….. All of them positive emotions, leaving no space for negative ones.
October 28, 2020 at 9:04 pm #28066AnonymousInactiveGabor, not only will you stop stuttering very soon, but you will be the best speaker in your group. If you think what you are doing now is bringing you to tears, imagine how powerful you will feel once you are completely self-cured. I am so glad that you are taking this so seriously! Keep up the good work.
November 29, 2020 at 1:40 pm #28288GáborParticipantWhat do you think about spontaneous, “freestyle” affirmations? Basically, I go into a meditative state then I talk to myself without any pre-planned sentences. I tell myself the affirmations but in a more enjoyable and spontaneous manner, which is a main part of the Lovett method – speaking without actually thinking about words and focusing on the message (in this case, the message is the same as in the affirmations – loving to speak, using crutches, improving myself every day, etc.)
November 29, 2020 at 8:13 pm #28294JavierModeratorHi Gábor. In this case, I prefer to use the same affirmations (“the most repeated thought becomes the predominant one”), but I guess (I’m not an expert) that you can also express the same idea with different words.
But if everytime you do an AST you say different ideas, then they won’t be as effective as the way I mentioned at the beggining of this message.
I hope I explained myself clearly… Repetition is one of the most important things with ASTs, not only in one AST, but in ALL ASTs (you can make slight changes nonetheless).November 30, 2020 at 9:41 am #28305AnonymousInactiveHi Gabor,
It is important for your brain to hear the SAME thing day after day. This is the only way the mind training will work.
Remember, when reading the affirmations, you are NOT thinking about the words, you are concentrating on the CRUTCHES.
